Naturopathic | Laboratory Test
Our clinic offers a wide variety of testing to help diagnose the root cause of many problems. The list below includes some of the most common testing that is available.
If you have extended medical benefits, please check with your provider. Often testing is covered under your extended medical plan.
1. Allergy Testing
IgG and IgE testing is done via blood serum. Two of the antibodies involved in allergic reactions are immunoglobulin E (IgE) and immunoglobulin G (IgG). IgE antibodies are produced after ingestion or inhalation of an allergen and is referred to as a Type I immediate hypersensitivity reaction such as hives. IgE reactions that are tested in the blood are quick acting and can occur minutes after exposure to the antigen. These reactions are often fixed and persist throughout life. IgG antibodies are produced for several hours or days after exposure to an allergen and are called Type III delayed hypersensitivity reactions. IgG reactions can promote a state of low grade inflammation in the body. This inflammation, in turn can contribute to a variety of different symptoms such as: digestive disorders, skin symptoms, joint pain, mood symptoms, and weight gain. IgG levels will often decrease if the allergen is strictly avoided for a particular period of time. This is a quick blood draw, done in our clinic. The results may take about 2 weeks to receive.
2. Hormone Testing / Endocrinology
These tests are used to accurately diagnose hormone status associated with female and male hormonal imbalances related to infertility, PMS, Menopause, Andropause, Thyroid issues (Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism) and Stress Hormones that cause sleep disturbances such as insomnia, Seasonal Affective Disorders, Anxiety, Depression and other mood disorders. Hormone testing is done via blood, urine or saliva. In most cases, a saliva collection test kit is normally given to the patient and the collection is done at home. After the collection is complete, the kit will be brought back to our clinic to be sent to the lab for analyses. Depending on the specific area that the doctor would like to test, a sample may be collected throughout a period of a full day (4 samples) or even throughout the entire month, with a sample taken once every few days. The doctor is then able to see how the hormones fluctuate throughout a full day or a cycle month, depending on the test. Results can take about 10-12 business days to receive.
3. Gastrointestinal / Digestive Testing
Stool, urine, saliva and blood tests are used to evaluate gastrointestinal function. This includes analyses of bacterial balance, digestion, absorption, yeast and parasites. These tests may be used for patients with any gastrointestinal related symptoms, such as indigestion, candida/yeast overgrowth, constipation, diarrhea, Crohn's and colitis and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). A test kit can be given to the patient for saliva, stool or urine testing and the collection is done at home. The kit is then brought back to the clinic and sent to the lab for analyses. Results take about 1-2 weeks to receive.
4. Micronutrient Testing
Comprehensive Micronutrient testing is used to help you understand your individual diet needs by evaluating your overall nutritional status, assessing your functional need for vitamins and minerals, and to aid the doctor in providing recommendations for supplementation. This is a simple blood test, done in our clinic and then send to the lab for analyses. Results are back within 10-12 business days.
5. Urine Minerals and Heavy Metal Testing
Heavy metals testing designed to identify the load of heavy metals in the body. Urine element analysis is intended primarily for: diagnostic assessment of toxic element status, monitoring detoxification therapy, and identifying or quantifying renal wasting conditions. This is often done prior to chelation therapy. This urine collection is done over a 6 hour period following a post provocation IV. The collection is then brought back to the clinic for processing and shipping to the lab. Results can take up to two weeks to receive.
6. Additional testing
We offer a wide variety of other tests such as routine bloodwork done at a lab, lipoprotein testing, pap smears and metabolic testing. Metabolic testing includes testing proteins, liver and kidney enzymes as well as electrolytes. This is done via blood testing and is used to address chronic systemic complaints. These can include tiredness/fatigue, headaches, mood disorders, muscular and joint pain as well as digestive issues. These tests can be done in-clinic or at lifelabs. Results can take 3-5 days to receive, depending on the test.
